Responding to the transfer of Fort William’s Moss Park Care Home from HC-One to The Highland Council and NHS Highland, Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said:
“With an ageing population, providing care facilities in communities across the Highlands and Islands is only going to become more important in the future.
“However, the number of care places available for elderly people in the Highlands has fallen significantly in recent years. That is a real and pressing concern.
“That is why it is so important that Moss Park stays open in the long-term and continues to provide for current residents and, in order to not put further pressure on already overstretched facilities, for new residents in the future.
“And so, while I welcome the formal transfer of Moss Park - which will no doubt come as a relief to residents, their families and the local community, I am concerned that the current pause on new admissions risks creating further backlog and uncertainty.
“I hope to seek further clarity on when the pause will be ended and new admissions allowed. And what the new operators’ long-term intentions are for Moss Park”.
