Responding to news that an application for temporary worker accommodation at Broadford on Skye has been withdrawn, Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said:
“This application has caused considerable concern and anger amongst the local community, but I fear its withdrawal is not the end of the story.
“The local community in Broadford deserve answers from the landowner, Ross Lambie, over what contracts have been signed to use the land and if there is the chance – or concrete plans - for other facilities linked to large scale energy infrastructure projects to be sited there.
“Also, it is unlikely that further worker accommodation won’t be needed given the huge scale of the projects they’re catering for, so there must be the fear that developers will simply look to site worker accommodation somewhere else on Skye.
“Local communities across Skye deserve clarity from SSEN and all those involved in the project on whether a new site is being considered and, if so, what sites are being considered.”
