Protecting natural Moray for “generations to come”

Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has praised the work of staff and volunteers who have set up an Earth Guardians group in Moray.

In a motion submitted to the Scottish Parliament yesterday (Thursday 4th July), the Scottish Conservative MSP welcomed efforts by the Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC) and the Scottish Wildlife Trust to encourage young people to build relations with the natural environment.

Mr Halcro Johnston, who visited the Scottish Dolphin Centre in Spey Bay last year, said: “I’m delighted to be able to draw attention to the establishment of this new group and to give MSP colleagues the chance to show their support.

“The Scottish Dolphin Centre, which is run by WDC,  is a really interesting place to visit and the enthusiasm of the staff and volunteers there is infectious.

“It is a great showcase for our area and its success demonstrates the widespread and growing interest here in Moray in our natural environment, something I am sure that Earth Guardians will be able to tap into.

“Moray is one of the most beautiful places in Scotland and is rich in natural habitats and wildlife. And the coastline is a fantastic place to see seabirds, seals, dolphins and even whales.

“There is so much to experience and learn. I am sure that young people will be only too keen to get involved in the activities that Earth Guardians, with the support of WDC and the Scottish Wildlife Trust, will offer.

“It will provide opportunities for the next generation to learn about their role as custodians of the natural environment, as well as how to protect it on behalf generations to come.”
